Considered by many to be in with a good chance of lifting
the trophy, Afghanistan have progressed rapidly in the two
years since the last ACC Trophy, where tactical naiveté and
team disunity cost them dearly. A team made up of hard-hitting
batsmen all the way down the order and fast-bowling all-rounders,
Afghanistan will certainly win many followers with their positive
play throughout the tournament.
Of late they have learnt to temper their free-spirited play with
a little bit more discipline – fewer players are caught on
the boundary – and they have learnt not only how to deal with
spin, they have spinners in their ranks as well.
They are coached by the wily fox, Taj Malik, who talks nothing less
than a good game: “We will win the ACC Trophy, no doubt about
it”.
