QATAR WON BY 219 RUNS
As expected, Qatar beat Iran by a large margin to secure quarter-final qualification. They will now play UAE for a place in the semi-final.
Iran made a breakthrough in the 2nd over, Iran's captain Nareman Bakhtiar having Saleem Akhtar caught hooking, and then Shahbaz Ahmed fell to have Qatar needing to rebuild at 33 for 2. Which is always easier to do when you have your two best batsmen at the crease. Omer Taj, still shaking off a couple of hand injuries, wasn't at his fluent best nevertheless, with Muhammad Jahangir (50 off 57 deliveries) he set about finding the boundary and within a few overs, the run-rate climbed to 6 an over and Qatar were on their way.
Taj was eventually out in the 42nd over for 178 (141 deliveries), having made his runs out of the 273 made by Qatar while he was at the crease.
Iran put up a decent fight in chasing down 355, batting out the full 50 overs, Qatar using eight bowlers. Nareman Bakhtiar made a belligerent 68.
