2006 ACC U-15 Cup (Elite Division)
HONG KONG v SINGAPORE
Singapore and Hong Kong shared the honours at the resplendent Kinrara
Oval, though Singapore would feel that had rain not intervened they would
have come considerably closer to victory.
As it was, inserting Hong Kong after winning the toss Singapore – a
team of all-rounders – had seven of their bowlers chipping in
with wickets as Hong Kong could barely get the ball off the square
for the better part of four hours. Hong Kong were eventually all out
for 111. In reply Singapore’s captain Timothy Singham pretty
much controlled proceedings once he came at Number 4 with a classy
undefeated 81, an innings interrupted by rain in the final session
of the first day.
Singapore eventually declared with a lead of 47, leaving them two sessions
in which to manufacture a result. Hong Kong were much more assertive second
time around and the openers Anesh Varma and Vivek Manglani knocked off the
deficit by themselves in a partnership of 52. The top-order did Hong Kong proud
with all making solid contributions, Ashish Gaidhya (68) and Zuiad Khan (33)
particularly impressing.
