INDIA DO IT IN A HURRY

India beat Scotland with almost half the scheduled play in the day left, to win by eight wickets at the Premadasa Stadium.

Abu Ahmed used the conditions superbly to run through the Scotland with pace, cut and swing, taking three top-order wickets. At 49-6 Scotland were really struggling but some streaky strokeplay by Scott Maclennan and Umar Mohammed took Scotland’s score to 100 before Maclennan was stumped for 25.

Going into bat needing 113 for victory, India lost Rohit Sharma in the second over but Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravikant Shukla put on 85 at better than a run a ball to assure there would be no upset. The winning runs were hit in the 19th over.

India now play Sri Lanka on Friday at the same venue, to determine who will finish top of the group and play either one of the top two teams in Group B – Australia, South Africa or the West Indies.
