KUWAIT CATCHES THE SPIRIT

In commemoration of the ICC’s Centenary year, in April Kuwait Cricket staged an all-star match between the attendant veterans attached to the ACC, Kuwait and the participating teams of the ACC U-19 Elite Cup. “Catch the Spirit” was the cry.

Each of the ICC’s 104 Members is holding an event which captures the collective commitment and values which are central to the sport. Kuwait Cricket President’s XI and Kuwait Cricket Chairman’s XI, played a T20 match. The Chairman’s XI was led by Bandula Warnapura, Sri Lanka’s first Test captain and current ACC Development Manager, and included Roy Dias and Vinodhan John of Sri Lanka, Naeem Ahmed of Pakistan and Venkataramana of India. Roqibul Hassan of Bangladesh, Mansoor Akhtar and Iqbal Sikander of Pakistan and India’s Diwakar Vasu were prominent in a President’s XI captained by Kuwait’s Asad Baig. Umpiring doyen K.T.Francis was on hand as Match Referee.

The game went to the very last delivery, with the Chairman’s XI needing just four runs to reach their target of 184. Asad Baig bowled, Abdul Qayyum swung, Iqbal Sikander pouched on the boundary. A catch was taken, the spirit of cricket also securely grasped.
