The Qatar Cricket Association added an event to the many held across the country to mark Qatar National Day, hosting a five-team tournament at the West Bay Cricket Complex on the north-eastern outskirts of Doha. It was the ninth event of its kind held by the QCA over the years. "We feel delighted to host this event and will continue to organize it for many more years to come with the same commitment and enthusiasm," said QCA General Secretary Manzoor Ahmad.

Play started early in the round-robin ten-over QCA National Day Cricket Tournament, the five teams – Qatar XI, Bangladesh Expatriates XI, India Expatriates XI, Pakistan Expatriates XI, Sri Lanka Expatriates XI – playing under a blanket of thick cloud, with a fresh breeze blowing diagonally across the ground. The outfield of dew-dampened sand made run-scoring difficult; nine runs an over was par for the day. Bad light forced the curtailment of the final match with Qatar XI just ahead on run-rate when play had to be abandoned with just 13.3 overs of the match played.
