Bangladesh defeated Hong Kong China by 28 runs in the Group B match of the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup played at Southend Club Cricket Stadium, Karachi on Friday.

Floating on the century of Mosaddek Hossain, Bangladesh piled up 286 runs for the loss of eight wickets and then did not let Hong Kong get past 258 for seven runs in 50 overs.

Bangladesh elected to bat first but had early jolt when one of their openers Mizanur Rahman (eight) marched back to the pavilion at nine runs in the fourth over. His partner Zakir Hasan then developed a match saving innings with Najmul Hossain only to separate at 89 for two. Najm was bowled by Ehsan Khan at 36 he gathered in 52 balls which was aided by two fours.

However, his departure led Mosaddek’s entry in the field and with a responsible batting he not only scored 100 runs in 86 balls but also laid a solid foundation to their total. He also hit eight fours and three sixes.

He and Yasir Ali produced a 90 runs partnership. The two got separated by Mohammad Ghazzanfar when Yasir lost his wicket at 45 that came in 43 balls. His stay also had five boundaries which also had a six. Then Atif Hossain by scoring 20 runs supported Mosaddek. Their captain Nurul Hasan made useful 17 before getting out. Nayeem Hasan and Tanvir Islam were their not out batsmen.

Aizaz Khan struck three times for Hong Kong, Ehsan Nawaz twice while Ehsan Khan, Tanveer Ahmed and Mohammad Ghazanfar once each.

In their turn, Hong Kong fought quite reasonably especially their opener Nizakat Khan and down the order batsman Babar Hayat. Both the players missed their centuries and were the victims of nervous nineties. The failure of their team-mates in not providing ample support to them cost them dearly. Nizakat made 92 runs in 95 balls, hitting nine fours and three sixes while Hayat scored 91 runs in 95 balls which was laced by five boundaries and three hits over the ropes.

Other prominent in their batting were Aizaz and Raag Kapur with 15 each and Ehsan Khan who remained not out at 26.

Khaled Ahmed and Mosaddek Hossain had success with the ball twice while Shoriful Islam and Nayeem Hasan shared one wicket apiece.

Hong Kong, China’s next match is against United Arab Emirates team on December 9 (Sunday) as Saturday is the rest day for Group B.
