The opening day of the ACC Premier League saw three matches across Kuala Lumpur with Afghanistan and Hong Kong playing a One-Day International at the Bayuemas Oval, ODI nation UAE playing Nepal at Selangor Turf Club and hosts Malaysia playing Oman at Kinrara.
Afghanistan cruised to a six-wicket win inside 44 overs after restricting Hong Kong to 216, Afghanistan's spinners Amir Hamza and Mohammad Nabi took 5 for 65 in their 20 overs after Mirwais Ashraf reeled off 10 overs for just 25 runs after coming on first change. Babar Hayat top-scored with 53 off 66 balls with six 4s and two 6s. In return Osman Ghani, on his debut for thedi senior team starred with the bat making 70 off 68 balls with six 4s and four 6s. Hong Kong didn't help their cause by dropping five catches.
Nepal beat ODI nation by four wickets. Nepal's pace bowlers Mehboob Alam and Sompal Kami took 6 for 60 between them, Sompal picking up the prize wicket of UAE captain Khurram Khan second ball for 0. Only Swapnil Patil made a score of substance, 76 off 95 (eight 4s, two 6s) with Krishna Karate on debut making 36 off 69. Nepal's wicket-keeper Subash Khakurel made 71 off 91 with eleven 4s. Nepal won inside 40 overs.
Oman racked up 269 for 6 at Kinrara, veteran opener Zeeshan Maqsood making 77 off 108 with ten 4s, with 40s from Arif Hussain and Aamir Kaleem. For Malaysia captain Ahmad Faiz played close to a lone hand with his 70 off 90 deliveries which included ten 4s. Aamir Kaleem and Zeeshan Siddiqui took three wickets each.
Friday's matches are the One Day International between Afghanistan and UAE, Malaysia v Nepal and Hong Kong v Oman.
