    12th Man: Norwira Zazmie
  • Both teams in this match have gone for spin-heavy attacks, five spinners and three seamers each. The track looks firm and true, there'll more bounce here than at the Tribhuvan University ground and it should help the strokeplayers and those bowlers who can really extract life out the wicket.
  • It's awfully cold here today. the sun trying hard to break through but there's a medium-thick blanket of cloud which is going to take at least a couple of hours to burn away. At least there a few chinks in the grey which are letting in the sun. But it is awfully cold. Both teams in their warm-up gear going through the last of their preparations. 24 minutes to start of play here between Afghanistan and Malaysia
  • ACC T20, Afghanistan v Malaysia: Suresh Navaratnam RMF, takes the new ball for Malaysia, Karim Sadiq RHB to face, Shabir Noori RHB his partner
  • Steady start by Suresh for Malaysia, punchy Karim Sadiq not quite timing it yet. Hassan Ghulam RMF from the other end to Afghanistan's Shabir Noori RHB
  • Sun threatening to break through and Shabir Noori plays an awesome stroke off the back foot, placing it through the triply-defended off-side field, played from under the chin Aravinda de Silva style FOUR, Afghanistan 9 for 0 after 2 overs
  • Steadier stuff here at Pulchowk for Afghanistan v Malaysia, Karim Sadiq not yet in touch, a little leaden-footed outside off, as the ball keeps low, Afghanistan 17 for 0 after 21 balls
  • But Karim does get going now. SIX off Hassan Ghulam, over midwicket, full-length ball on his pads, flicked not forced, and Afghanistan are 25 for 0 after 4 overs
  • Shabbir Noori gives Suresh Navaratnam makes to give Suresh Navaratnam the charge and then rocks back to swing a soaring SIX over square leg, and then next ball, just classes a FOUR through mid-on. Peerless. Afghanistan 40 for 0 after 5 overs, Shabbir 24* off 15
  • Whole-hearted Hammad Khan RFM, on at the Patan End for Malaysia, (playing in borrowed kit as his bags were lost en route to Kathmandu)
  • But Shabbir's playing like he's been wearing cricket gear all his life. FOUR smashed straight and then a sublime square drive off the back foot for another FOUR and Afghanistan are 52 for 0 after 6 overs, Shabbir 33* off 19 balls
  • Spin at both ends for Malaysia now, there's turn, but it's slow. Ball not quite sitting up though and young Shahrulnizam Yusof has always bowled well to the Afghans
  • Karim Sadiq hits his first FOUR, off Shahrulnizam SLA, straight drive and Afghanistan going at close to eight an over here. Malaysia need wickets
  • FIFTY for Shabbir 'Lara' Noori and falls next ball, fetching a ball from off-stump on one knee. Good catch by Suresh Navaratnam low down, diving forward on the backward square boundary. Wicket for young Nik Arifin OB in his first over
  • Afghanistan 89 for 1 after 11 overs, new batsman is Mohammad Shehzad RHB. Looks to be in his usual feisty form
  • The ever jaunty Shehzad takes his helmet off - he looks like he means business. Reverse-sweeps and the Dilscoop among other improvisations to follow. Afghanistan 111 for 1 after 13 overs
  • WICKET Karim goes, dropped just before, stumped two balls later off Nik Arifin OB, 39 off 41 but he wasn't his flamboyant best and Afghanistan are 118 for 2 in t he 14th over
  • New Afghan batsman is the captain Nawroz Mangal RHB, Malaysia getting back into the game here. Spin at both ends. Afghanistan not yet able to give it the big charge down the home stretch. Agfhanistan 123 for 2 with 30 balls to go
  • WICKET Shahzad never looking quite settled, bowled by canny Shahrulnizam SLA now on at the Patan End, and Afghanistan are 123 for 3 at the start of the 16th. New batsman is the effervescent Asghar Stanikzai RHB
Afghanistan's engine-room: Asfghar Stanikzai and Nawroz Mangal
  • Afghanistan are 154 for 4 after 18.2 overs. Nawroz Mangal the man out, falling to Shahrulnizam
  • Afghanistan were 83 for 1 after 10 overs so Malaysia have done well in holding them back to 158 for 4. Last over coming up. Hassan Ghulam RHB to bowl.
  • Afghanistan finish on 166 for 4, they'd have settled for that at the start of the innings but given the start they had by Shabbir and Karim, they'd have expected more. Good bowling by Shahrulnizam SLA especially - scotching the Afghan fire - and one dropped catch aside, very good fielding by Malaysia.
  • Maybe the innings was symptomatic of how Afghanistan have played this year - plenty of ability but a lot of unfulfilled potential as they haven't quite known how to manage game situations to maximum advantage.
  • A hardy crowd of about 100 at the Pulchowk ground for Afghanistan v Malaysia, even the ballboys are wearing gloves. Kuwait and UAE have arrived for their afternoon match and are watching too.
  • Hammad and Zakaria RHBs are Malaysia's openers. Hamid Hassan RMF is Afghanistan's new ball-bowler, he comes bustking in from the Bagmati End. He's looking as healthy as I've ever seen him.
  • One slip in place for Hamid, he's generating a lot of pace already. Batsmen playing him off the front foot. Malaysia 4 for 0 after 1 over, need 167 off 20 to win.
  • The tall, rangy Mirwais Ashraf RFM from the Patan End. Finds swing if there's any around but I think it's just too cold for that today. Still, these are conditions he's used to back home.
  • First FOUR of the Malaysian innings to Rosman Zakaria, fine on-drive off Mirwais and another FOUR next ball, Mirwais over-pitching. Malaysia 17 for 0 after 2 overs and up with the rate! Need 167 off 20 to win
  • Hamid Hassan
Hamid 5-4 field, slip goes to square leg. Bounce for him from the Bagmati End
  • Hamid 5-4 field, slip goes to square leg. Bounce for him from the Bagmati End and just one run from the over, Malaysia 18 for 0 after 3, need 167 off 20 overs to win
  • Good over by young spinner Nasim Khan in his first match for Afghanistan, a MAIDEN. Malaysia 18 for 0 after 4 and starting to slip well behind. Need 167 off 20 overs
  • Run-out chance, Hamid shies from mid-on, Hammad stranded, Hamid misses. Dawlat Zadran RFM who replaced Hamid from the Bagmati End bowling well
  • Top shot by Rosmanizam, applauded by the crowd. He looks a well-composed batsman, FOUR, straight drive, to finish the 5th over. Malaysia 26 for 0, need another 141 from 15.
  • Malaysia's Hammad riding his luck here, but runs are coming off his bat and Malaysia making a go of it, 36 for 0 at a run a ball, need another 131 to win off 84
  • WICKET Dawlat Zadran gets one to cut in off the wicket and castles Rosmanizam, beaten by the pace too, and Malaysia are 36 for 1 at the start of the 7th. New batsman is Suhan Kumar RHB, Malaysia's young captain who plays a lot of his cricket in Australia
  • Dawlat Zadran looks like a find. Easy, smooth action and plenty of pace and hits the seam hard on the deck. Malaysia 41 for 1 after 7 overs, need 167 from 20 to win
  • Suhan Kumar can work balls off his legs all day. Malaysia 55 for 1 after 8 overs, need 167 from 20 to win.
  • SIX over deep fine leg. Hamid Hassan gets a hand to it but palms it over the rope and runs into the dining-room tent. Tent survives. Hamid's hand looks OK. Malaysia 61 for 1 in the 9th over. Need 167 from 20 to win
  • Malaysia 65 for 1 at the half-way stage, Hammad 30*, Suhan 19*. Need another 102 from the last 10 overs. Possible, very possible
  • Crowd of 200 now for this Afghanistan v Malaysia match, about 15000 at the TU ground apparently, for the Nepal v Hong Kong match

  • WICKET Hammad commits hari-kiri, sets off for a single with the ball in mid-on's hand and is nearer the non-striker Suhan Kumar who was sending him back from the start, than he is the stumps when the throw comes into Mohmmad Shahzad's gloves. Malaysia 73 for 2 in the 12th over
  • WICKET Suhan dances down the track to Sami SHenwari LB and is stumped by Shahzad, Malaysia derailing, 78 for 3 in the 13th over, need 167 from 20 to win
  • It's at these moments that the gulf between Afghanistan and the other nations is most evident - Malaysia for example, self-destruct in trying to be aggressive, Afghanistan's spinners know how to turn the screws. Ariffin Ramly bowled by NAbo going for a big one, Malaysia 80 for 4 in the 14th over
  • WICKET Hassan snared by Hamid at square leg off Nabi OB, Malaysia now 81 for 5 after 14 overs and they need another 86 to win off 36 balls, Suresh Navaratnam and Suharril Fetri at the crease
  • Nabi has the ball on a string today. Finding turn and bounce and has that doosra working too, Suharril bowled for 10 and Malaysia are 93 for 6 in the 16th, needing another 74 to win at almost a boundary a ball
  • Sami Shenwari has developed into an all-rounder with his batting and fielding, but it was his leg-spin that launched him and he picks up his second of the day with the last ball of his spell to finish with 2-15 and Malaysia are 98 for 7 after 17 overs
  • Hamid the lion gets Suresh the warhorse lbw and this game is going the way of the dodo, Malaysia 105 for 8
  • Malaysia finish on 107 for 9 off 20 overs and Afghanistan have won by 59 runs
  • Good performance by both teams with the ball but Afghanistan just had more depth and quality.
