Day 3: Malaysia v Maldives at Tribhuvan University: MALAYSIA MANAGES MALDIVES

  • ACC Twenty20 Cup Malaysia vs Maldvies at TU Ground: Maldives won the toss and elected to field first.
  • Wow... what a start. Hammad pulls first two delivery of Ibrahim for fours at sqaure leg boundary, fielders even did not bother to run. Ibrahim came back strongly with balls that went past the bat. Malaysia 11/0 in 1 overs.
  • WICKET, Maldives strikes! Jayakody gets a thin edge of Zakaria's bat during an attempt to pull. Malaysian openers are looking to pull anything short, and it's not always fruitful. Suhan Kumar, the new man, begins with a four at mid-wicket boundary. Malaysia 19/1 in 2 overs.
  • Malaysia into the game now, they are getting frequent fours and singles. Malaysia 27/1 in 3 overs.
  • DROPPED, Suhan Kumar, at 11, dropped at mid-off. Straight forward chance, the fielder gets his both hands on but the ball bounces off his hands. Jayakody not much happy. Two fours in the over as Hammad Ullah Khan going strong at 22. Malaysia 37/1 in 4 overs.
  • WICKETS, Suhan Kumar is out on 12 and Arifin Ramly on 0. Ibrahim got Suhan on second appeal of the over, umpire Buddhi Pradhan thought for a while and raises his finger. Ramly saw his stumps hit through his defense. Malaysia 38/3 in 4th overs.
  • Hammad is going strong. He hits two fours to Jayakody as Malaysia finishes 6 overs at 46/3. Hammad is not out on 31.
  • A few extra runs due to fielding lapses and Malaysia are 54/3 in 7 overs.
  • Hammad paddle sweeps Moosa Kaleem for a four.
  • WICKET: Kaleem, man of the match yesterday in a win over Bhutan, gets thin edge of Suresh Navaratnam's bat who went on back foot. Malaysia 60/4 in 8 overs.
  • Malaysia now focusing on singles - finishes 10th over with 70/4.
  • Mahfooz is bowling well for Maldives, hard to hit. Gave away 6 runs in last two overs, after going for 10 in his first. Malaysia 74/4 in 11 overs.
  • Don't understand why Maldives went for pace with Abdullah Shahid. He went for 8 runs and Malaysia are now 82/4 in 12 overs.
  • SIX & 50, Hammad Ullah Khan completes his half-century with a brilliant straight six to Mahfooz. Well played Hammad, he has anchored the innings well and seems very strong on big shots.
  • WICKET, Mahfooz replies well. Hammad Ullah Khan is out lbw after making brilliant half-century. Malaysia now 91/5 in 13 overs.
  • Malaysia reaches 100. Is going strong at 100/5 in 14 overs.
  • Meanwhile, Suharril Fetri has taken over the job from Hammad and anchroing the innings. He is now at 26 and Malaysia at 109/5 in 15 overs.
  • WICKET, Moosa Kaleem gets one through Zazmie's defense.
  • Moosa bowls good giving away only two runs and taking a wicket. Malaysia 111/6 in 16 overs.
  • Hassam Ghulam hits Faiz for a six and Malaysia are now 123/6 in 17 overs. Ghulam is tall and strong and looking for big shots all the time. Is connecting well and some fireworks predicted now.
  • Sadly no fireworks as Ghulam goes on 14 of 8 balls. Wicket-taker? Moosa Kaleem, who else.
  • Malaysia 133/7 in 18 overs.
  • Malaysian batsmen trying hard to hit big, however that haven't come yet. Ibrahim get Nik Arifin's wicket scattering his stumps. Malaysia 137/8 in 19 overs.
  • Malaysia 147/8 in 20 overs. The competitive enough score at the TU Ground. I fancy Maldives are going to have tough time out at the center while batting.
  • Abdulla Shahid & Safraz Jaleel to open batting for Maldives while Suresh Navaratnam to bowl for Malaysia.
  • Maldives begins with a four as Shahid hits Navaratnam to a boundary off first ball at long-on.
  • Jaleel hits a four off straight drive, Navaratnam tries hard with extended hand for the catch, not within his reach. Maldives 9/0 in 1 over.
  • SIX, Maldives is going well, with Shahid hits bowler Ghulam straight out of boundary. The bowler is not helping his team. Has bowled two wides, one of which went for a bye four. Maldives 24/0 in 2 overs.
  • WICKET, Malaysia introduces spin with left-arm Shahrulnizam Yusof and there is a breakthrough. Jaleel is run out as he has to run back half-the-crease as Shahid was not interested in quick singles after four dot balls. Wicket-maiden for Yusof. Maldives 25/1 in 3 overs.
  • DROPPED, bowler Nik Arifin is not happy as Moosa Kaleem is dropped at mid-off. Fielder gets both hand but drops it. Maldives 26/1 in 4 overs.
  • SIX & WICKET, Shahrulnizam Yusof gets Shahid who hits a straight six, tries it again and ended giving a catch to mid-off fielder, who did well covering a distance and holding the catch. Maldives 36/2 in 5 overs.
  • WICKET, Maldives lost another wicket caught at boundary. Jayakody this time off Sukri Abdul Rahim. Maldives 39/3 in 7 overs. Maldives losing the grip in the game but until Moosa Kaleem is there at the center anything can happen.
  • Maldives now reaches 50 in 9th over. Maldives is lagging behind in run-rate but still 11 overs remaining. Maldives 54/3 in 9 overs. Target 148.
  • Half-way-through and Maldives are 58/3. Need 90 runs in next 10 overs, tough ask but not impossible.
  • Maldives 68/3 in 12 overs, Maldivians are not risking anything right now but with so many wickets in hand, they will probably look to go after bowling pretty soon. Target 148.
  • SIX & WICKET, Ahmed Faiz is out off Yusof. Faiz hits Yusof out of ground on long-on and next ball, he tried to play a back foot slice and did not connect. Maldives 84/4 in 14 overs.
  • Maldives trying to accelerate now, running hard, looking for runs every ball. 87/4 in 15 overs. Moosa Kaleem on 32. Target 148.
  • Moosa Kaleem is dropped twice by long-off fielder, who did well to run in, get the ball in hand in the first and made it six in the second. Was in good position to catch! Maldives 97/4 in 16 overs. Target 148.
  • A few dozen spectators cheering for Maldives as they hope that they could win this match. Still difficult, isn't it? Maldives 103/4 in 17 overs. Needs 45 runs in 18 balls to win.
  • 'Come on Maldives, only 12 balls remaining, go for it' is being heard from crowd. It feels nice to see a few dozens people coming to watch the game in which Nepal is not involved.
Maldives 121/5 in 19 overs. Need 27 runs in last over to win. Can they do it?
  • Hassan Ghulam 2 W W 1 2 2 And, that ends with a victory for Malaysia.
  • VICTORY for Malaysia by 19 runs. They batted well getting a good total at this ground and bowled without much pressure. Maldives never looked like winning without some magical fireworks, however, praise for them for taking over the game to full 20 overs all the while scoring runs around the ground.
