ACC Twenty20 Cup 2013 - Nepal v Maldives

  • ACC Twenty20 Cup, Day 1: Nepal v Maldives at Tribhuvan
  • Maldives won the toss and elected to field
  • Pradeep Airee playing with power and precision, an innings of crisp brutality driving the colourful Holi-day crowd wild! He's out for 59 off 25, just three of them in singles and Nepal are 80 for 1 in the 7th over
  • Three quick wickets have levelled the Nepal escalation, Nepal are 91 for 3 in the 9th over and Paras Khadka is in
  • It looked while Pradeep Airee and Subash Khakurel were going that Maldives would have to chase 200+ on a new wicket that's playing hard and true, but they've kept plugging away with line and length, taking some good catches and Nepal are 148 for 5 in the 18th over. Late-over smashes yet to come
  • Strong close by Nepal, Sharad Vesawkar going at 2 a ball for his 36* and Nepal finish on 171 for 5 off 20, play resumes in 15 minutes
  • INNINGS BREAK
  • No boundaries until the 15th ball thanks to some good fielding but Mohammad Rizwan smote a 6 and 4 to break the shackles before being bowled for 15, Maldives 18 for 1 in the 4th
  • The TU crowd of 5000 have been quite quiet for a while but they come alive thanks to some casual brilliance from Gyanendra Malla in the field, Ali's struggles end with a run-out.
    Maldives: 26 for 2 after 5 overs
  • Captain to captain and it's Paras Khadka who prevails, the hard-hitting Abdulla Shahid bowled, on the pull, ball skidding through under the bat
    Maldives: 30 for 3 after 6 overs
  • And then Shakti Gauchan strikes, first ball of his second over, fizzes off the wicket, plenty of work on that one by the left-arm spinner, pitches middle, takes the top of off
Maldives: 30 for 4 in the seventh over
  • It doesn't look like the Maldives are going to get too near this, 50 for 4 after 11 and more than two runs a ball wanted every ball from now on in. Ball hardly leaving the square, and no boundaries in 32 balls
  • Two overs to go of the Maldives innings and they're 84 for 7. Crowd of 5000+ now, milling around the revamped Tribhuvan University ground. Nice way to spend a public holiday for them
  • Maldives weathered the initial onslaught of Airee (59 off 38 balls, 8 fours, 4 sixes) and plugged away at Nepal with some sturdy bowling and fielding but had nothing much to offer with the bat once Rishwan and Shahid were out. Comfortable warm-up for Nepal, bigger challenges from Hong Kong likely tomorrow when they're back at Tribhuvan at 0330hrs GMT
