Day 2: MALAYSIA RUN RIOT OVER BHUTAN AS NEPAL, HONG KONG WIN OPENERS

Malaysia romped to a 260-run win over Bhutan for their second successive victory at the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup Eastern Region qualifying tournament as Nepal and Hong Kong opened their campaigns on a high.

A strong batting performance laid the foundation to Malaysia's Group B triumph at the Selangor Turf Club as the hosts piled up 288 runs before dismissing Bhutan for 28, with one player retired injured, in 13.4 overs.

Bhutan won the toss and put Malaysia into to bat as Aslam Khan Malik and Wan Amirul Zulkarnian flayed the bowlers in a 116-run opening partnership.

Wan Amirul just fell short of a fifty when he was stumped on 48 having hit five fours and a six off 54 balls before Tshering Penjor claimed his second wicket when he dismissed Aslam for 66 off 43 with nine fours and two sixes.

Amir Azim Shukor picked up the pace following the exit of the opening pair, scoring 52 off 49 with seven fours and a six and combining for 46 run with Tanish Arora (17) for the fourth wicket.

Lokman Nur Hakim Sahar added 21 run while a 42-run partnership for the eighth wicket betwee Arief Yusof (31) and Vijay Unni Suresh (15) pushed the score close to 300.

None of the Bhutan players reached double figures in their reply with Rinzin Chopel retiring hurt after failing to score off six balls.

Sachinu Hettige was the pick of the Malaysian bowlers with figures of four for three in 3.4 overs to win match honours while Vijay and Haiqal Khair claimed two wickets each as Malaysia stayed on course for the semi-finals.

In another Group B match at the TPCA Oval in Kajang, Hong Kong handed Thailand a second straight defeat with a five-wicket win after scoring 102-5 in 20 overs to overhaul Thailand's 99 all out in 29.4 overs.

Nasrulla Rana topscored for Hong Kong with 46 runs off 23, a strike-rate of 200, and featuring five sixes and two fours while Raunaq Kapur (5-25) and Vikas Sharma (4-19) punished the Thais with nine wickets between them.

Favourites Nepal were in a hurry to open their campaign with a 10-wicket rout of China in a Group A match at the Kinrara Oval, needing just five overs to knock off the required runs.

Sagar Dhakal took six wickets for 19 as Nepal dismissed China for 53 runs in 23.1 overs before Pawan Saraf (46) and Rit Gautam (10) hit seven boundaries and three sixes between them to reach 57 without loss.

Thursday is a rest day before action resumes on Friday when Hong Kong take on Bhutan at STC and Nepal face Singapore at Kinrara.
