Malaysia elected to field against Pakistan today, resulting in the highest total of the 2018 Women’s Asia Cup! Pakistan saw and early wicket, losing Bibi Nahida for 1 after a run out dismissal by Nur Nadhirah.

Jaweria Rauf and Javeria Wadood’s batting performance brought the score up to 36 by the 5th over, with 4 boundary-four deliveries. Sasha Azmi took Jaweria Rauf out at 5.3 overs for 13 and at 8.4 overs, Zumika Azmi took Javeria out for 31. The first half of Pakistan’s innings concluded with 66 for 3.

The next few overs saw more boundaries to Pakistan – 3 boundary-fours in the 12th over, 1 in the 13th, 1 in the 14th and two more in the 15th. This shot the score up to 121 for 3. At 15.4 overs, Bismah Maroof swung another four off Winifred, followed by Nida Rashid’s boundary-six at 15.6. Yusrina Yaakop successfully dismissed Bismah for 62 at 16.4 overs. 3 overs remaining and Pakistan had already scored 145 runs.

Nida delivered another four in the 18th over, followed by another by Syeda Nain in the next over. Nida was dismissed lbw at 18.4 overs by Ainna Hamizah Hashim for 41. Pakistan’s innings ended with two more boundary fours to Sana Mir, leaving Malaysia to chase 178 to win the match.

Christina Nina and Yusrina opened for Malaysia and they were only able to make 10 runs before Christina Nina was dismissed by Sana Mir at 6.5 overs, for 7 runs. In the 10th over, Winifred swung a four and ended the first half of Malaysia’s innings with just 18 for 1. Yusrina Yaakop was next to be dismissed, leaving the field for 4 after a swift catch by Syeda off Nida Rashid.

At this point onwards; unfortunately for Malaysia, the wicket-falls were outrunning the runs. In the 14th over, two batsmen were out; Winifred dismissed for 11 at 13.4 and Mahirah Izzati dismissed for a duck at 13.6. Two more consecutive wickets followed; Mas Elysa dismissed caught by Syeda for 0 and Zumika Azmi dismissed run out by Javeria for 1. Five overs remaining and Malaysia was stranded with just 23 for 6.

At 16.6 overs, Nida took another wicket – this time dismissing Aina Najwa for 2, leaving Malaysia with 28 for 7. In the following over, two more wickets fell – Javeria Wadood dismissed Noor Hayati for 0 and Ainna Hamizah for 1. The final over saw the last dismissal for Malaysia, as Nida takes Nur Nadhirah out for 1. Malaysia ended their innings with 30 all out; Pakistan winning the match by 147 runs.
