Day 1: BANGLADESH STORM TO 9-WICKET WIN OVER HONG KONG

Hosts Bangladesh got their ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup campaign off to a flier with a nine-wicket victory over Hong Kong at the BKSP-4 ground in Savar on Thursday.

Bangladesh cruised to the the small target of 165 runs in 24.1 overs for the loss of opener Naim Sheikh, who scored a fifty. Soumya Sarkar remained unbeaten with a team-high of 84 off 74 balls, his innings featuring nine fours and three sixes. Skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto remained unbeaten on 22.

Man of the Match: Soumya Sarkar (Bangladesh)

On winning the toss, Bangladesh asked Hong Kong to bat first and put the opposition under all sorts of trouble right from the beginning.

Right-arm seamer Sumon Khan was instrumental with the new ball, removing Ahsan Abbasi and C McAuslan -- the two Hong Kong openers -- cheaply.

Hong Kong did try to make a comeback, with Haroon Arshad top-scoring with 35 and skipper Aizaz Khan adding 25.

But the home team remained on top as Sumon went on to pick up two more wickets to end with figures of four for 33 from his ten overs.

Hong Kong eventually ended up with a modest total of 164 for 9 in 50 overs.

Off-spinner Mahedi Hasan bagged two wickets while Hasan Mahmud and Afif Hossain took a wicket each for Bangladesh.
