Day 2: AFGHANISTAN, NEPAL BOUNCE BACK

Afghanistan and Nepal registered their first wins of the ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup, beating opponents Oman and Hong Kong respectively on Saturday.

Oman, who stunned defending champions Sri Lanka on the opening day, suffered a massive nine-wicket defeat against Afghanistan after being bowled out for 153 at the Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium Academy Ground in Cox’s Bazar.

First match’s centurion Jatinder Sharma was again in fine form for Oman as he struck an 84-ball 72, but the opener found very little support from his teammates.

Left arm spinner Tariq Stanikzai was the pick of the bowlers for Afghanistan as he ended up with figures of four for 29 in 10 overs including two maidens while Abdul Wasi took two wickets.

An unbeaten 102-ball 91 from opener Abdul Malik featuring 12 fours and two sixes propelled Afghanistan’s run-chase, with Shahidullah adding 34 runs.

At the BKSP-4 Ground in Savar, Nepal successfully defended 217, beating Hong Kong by 40 runs.

Nepal were in a spot of bother after being sent in to bat as they lost two wickets for just three runs, but Sharad Vesawkar and Dipendra Singh Airee steadied the ship, adding 83 runs for the third wicket. Vesawkar then partnered with Aarif Sheikh and added another 74 runs for the fourth wicket before the latter departed for a well-made 42.

Vesawkar was eventually dismissed for 89 off 139 balls as Nepal were bowled out for 217 in 50 overs.
Aizaz Khan picked up three wickets while Nasrulla Rana and Ehsan Khan bagged two wickets each for Hong Kong.

Hong Kong’s reply never found steam as they kept losing wickets right from the start and were eventually skittled for 177 runs in 45.5 overs. Kinchit Shah top-scored with 53 runs while Ehsan Khan remained unbeaten on 44.

Right-arm seamers Karan KC and Abinash Bohara picked up three wickets each while Sushan Bhari scalped two wickets for Nepal.
